Project Description:
The NanoSurf project aims to strengthen international and cross-industry collaboration in dental implant research, sharing new ideas and transferring knowledge from research to market and vice versa. We will cover nanostructured metal oxide coatings, electrospun 3D scaffolds, organic nanofiber deposition, and laser patterning of implant surfaces using biotechnology, cell engineering, and nanotechnology. The goals of the interdisciplinary research and innovation of the project are aimed at developing a new class of dental implants with improved mechanical properties and improved surfaces processed by nanotechnological methods, with high biocompatibility, antibacterial properties and integration into the patient's bone. The designed surfaces will simplify dental surgery and prevent microbial inflammatory complications after implant surgery... This could provide better dental services and improve the health of the EU population. Project partners will conduct research and training in the areas of: manufacturing and characterization of zirconium-titanium (ZrTi) alloy dental implants; deposition of metal oxides, biopolymers and organic/inorganic nanolaminates, laser patterning, electrospinning, cell engineering, modeling analysis, and research and management training. The results will be shared with early-career researchers to enhance their personal skills, productivity and experience through the publication of scientific articles and the presentation of research results at scientific conferences, thereby further developing the EU's human resources for research and innovation. Dissemination of the project results will contribute to the development of EU research capacity in the field of bio- and nanotechnology and applied sciences.
